EU Clears Lydney Acquisition for Glatfelter

Glatfelter has been granted unconditional anti-trust approval to Glatfelter’s acquisition of the Lydney Mill located in Gloucestershire, UK from the European Commission (the “EC”). Following a Phase II investigation, during which Glatfelter cooperated closely with the authority, the EC came to the conclusion that the acquisition will not impede effective competition. Glatfelter began purchasing procedures in the beginning of 2006.

During the regulatory review, Glatfelter had operated the Lydney Mill as a stand-alone business. Having obtained all the necessary regulatory approvals, Glatfelter will now execute integration of the Lydney Mill into its Composite Fibers business unit. “We are pleased with the results of the EC investigation. We remain committed to delivering the high quality of products and services our customers expect from us,” said George Glatfelter II, chairman and c.e.o.

Headquartered in York, Pennsylvania, Glatfelter is a global manufacturer of specialty papers and engineered products. U.S. operations include facilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio. International operations include facilities in Germany, France, UK, the Philippines and a representative office in China. Glatfelter’s common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GLT.

Dunkin’ to Expand Into Asian Market

Dunkin’ Donuts plans to further expand its presence into Asia, starting with its first store in Taipei City, Taiwan. The company recently granted franchise rights to Mercuries & Associates to develop 100 stores in Taiwan within the next 10 years. Mercuries, the fifth largest market cap company in Taiwan, as well as one of the country’s largest retailers, brings 25 years of operating experience to the partnership.

“Taiwan represents the first step in Dunkin’ Donuts greater China strategy,” said Anthony P. Pavese, Dunkin’ Brands vice president of International Asia Pacific. “We are actively looking for Dunkin’ Donuts partners in China,” added Pavese.

The Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in Taiwan will offer a complete menu of Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee, baked goods and iced beverages. The restaurant will also serve items customized to suit local taste preferences, such as sweet potato, green apple and pineapple doughnuts, mochi rings, which are cake doughnuts indigenous to the region, as well as iced fruit teas and sandwiches.

World Tea Expo Moves To Atlanta For 2007

The World Tea Expo is moving to Atlanta, June 9–11 at the Georgia World Congress Center. A complete range of tea and tea-related products can be found at the event, including tea wholesalers and packers; bulk, bagged and ready-to-drink tea; tea bagging equipment and packaging suppliers; as well as gourmet foods, giftware, tea jewelry, chocolate and other confectionary items.

World Tea Expo president and founder, George Jage has noted, “Not only is participation growing exponentially, but we are seeing a huge increase in quality buyers.”

The World Tea Expo has formed a new partnership with Conference & Exhibition Management Services Pte. Ltd. (CEMS), which is an international trade show organization. Through this partnership, a significant increase in participants from China is expected.

“The increase in participation is growing at a rapid pace, with more than 80% of the booth space already sold at the end of October,” Jage said. “Having more vendors, more new products, and more new ideas to profit from significantly increases the value to our new and returning buyers.”

With 50 seminars and workshops, the conference program continues to evolve with defined tracks for tea knowledge, sales and marketing, foodservice solutions, tea and health, and business development. In addition to workshops, special events are held throughout the day, ranging from the tea ceremonies from different cultures, to cooking with tea demonstrations by leading regional chefs.
