Autocrat Coffee & Extracts Introduces Liquid Coffee Concentrate

Autocrat Inc., a fourth-generation family-owned business that roasts coffee and manufactures coffee extracts, after years of development, introduces bag-in-box liquid coffee concentrate extracted from 100% Colombian coffee. This shelf-stable liquid coffee extract is available in 100% Colombian and 100% Colombian decaffeinated, and is the ideal product offering for high-demand food service accounts where liquid coffee sales are a substantially growing sector of the U.S. coffee market.

“Liquid coffee concentrate reduces labor costs and allows operators to serve profitable coffee on demand,” said Richard M. Field, Jr., chairman/president. “Our goal is to continue delivering exceptional quality products that meet the increasing and varying requests of our customers’ current and future needs.”

Autocrat uses a bag-in-box that easily installs into dispensing equipment, provided by the cup or by the pot portions. Many of the benefits of Autocrat’s liquid coffee concentrate include superb quality, consistent taste, bag-in-box, shelf-stable, no messy grinds, easy-to-use, no prep time, convenient, brewed on demand, high-volume, and no waste, says the company.

Headquartered in Lincoln, Rhode Island, Autocrat is a manufacturer of premium coffee and extracts, and recently purchased a custom state-of-the-art extraction system to meet the increasing demands for coffee extracts and liquid coffee concentrate. Web: www.autocrat.com.

Figueroa Brothers has launched Artista Gourmet, a manufacturer of gourmet syrups, smoothie mixes and flavorings. Figueroa Brothers has had other successes in specialty food, including a specialty coffee company, a private label gourmet food business and a global line of specialty food products including flavored oils, marinades and spice mixtures.

“As brand developers, we’re always on the lookout for needs that aren’t being met by current specialty foods,” said Artista c.e.o. Artista will certainly stir things up. The goal of the company is to grow this into a $15 million brand over the next five years.”

Artista products are already posting strong sales. During a yearlong pilot test, Artista syrups sold over $1 million through national retail chains. The company has already signed national distribution deals to supply the syrups to coffeehouses and other specialty coffee retailers. Artista syrups will also be sold at retailers and online. Artista has an international distribution deal and is enjoying successful sales in England, France, Germany, New Zealand and Australia. In addition to Figueroa, co-founders David Figueroa and Glenn De Gruy lead the company.

Artista will offer 70 syrups during its first quarter, including a line of Artista Sugar Free syrups flavored with SPLENDA Brand Sweetener. The company is also introducing a line of 10 smoothie mixes.

Inventive Researchers:
Bosch Files 2,791 Patents

Researchers and developers of Bosch demonstrated outstanding inventive acumen in 2004 with a record number of 2,791 patent applications (2003: 2,748); they once more beat the high level of the previous year. The Bosch Group, with all its divisions, takes the second position in Germany with their applications, and ranks third position at the European Patent Office.

“Our innovations are an investment into the future. In the years to come, they will be the basis for mass-produced technological systems”, emphasized Wolfgang Chur, member of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH. The Bosch Group once more raised spending for research and development to an above industry level of almost three billion euro in the past year.

OCIA Begins Worldwide Strategic Alliance Initiative

OCIA International, the Organic Crop Improvement Association, has announced a new initiative to create strategic alliances with organizations that support and promote the welfare of organic farmers, organic agriculture and the organic foods industry. Under the initiative, organizations will be allowed to partner with OCIA to provide organic certification services on a worldwide level. The partner organizations would maintain their own organizational identity and organic certification services would be offered under OCIA’s accredited programs.

“OCIA’s strategic alliance initiative gives organizations an opportunity to provide organic certification services to their members without incurring the costs of accreditation,” said Jeff See, OCIA executive director. “The organization’s members could have access to all of OCIA’s accredited programs and OCIA would be the certifying agent,” he stated.

According to See, to become a strategic partner, the organization must sign an agreement that sets requirements, terms and conditions for both parties. “A key factor in the partnership would be that the organization must follow requirements that would not jeopardize our accreditation status under any of our certification programs.”
